For his part, Sharansky welcomed the nomination of Steinitz, saying that he understands the needs of the Diaspora Jews and will be welcomed by Jewish leaders around the world.
If Steinitz, who is considered to be the trustee of Netanyahu, will accept the offer to lead the "Sokhnut", his ministerial chair may be occupied by a deputy from the Likud, David Bitan, another trusted person, Netanyahu, whom the head of government promised that he would end his term in the current Knesset.
