American actress apologized for boycotting Israel

American actress Greta Gerwig regrets that she signed a letter calling for a boycott of Israel. In July, she became one of 60 artists who appealed to the leadership of the largest cultural center of New York - Lincoln Center - with a demand to cancel the demonstration of the play "Towards the End of the Earth", based on the novel of the popular Israeli writer David Grossman.

The reason for the boycott was seen in the fact that the money for the performance was allocated by the Israeli Department of Cultural Affairs in North America.

The petition was initiated by the non-profit organization Adalah-NY, which is engaged in supporting the boycott of Israel.

However, in an interview with New York Post, which Gerwig gave last Friday, the actress admitted that before she took the side of the boycotters, she did not understand enough about the issue.

"This summer my close friend asked me to write my name in the letter. Actually, I'm cautious about issues that I support, but in this case it was not so. I was unfamiliar with the whole complexity of the issue contained in the letter, and did not find time to study it.

Instead, since the letter has already been signed by many other friends and colleagues whom I know as conscious and respected people, I agreed to add my own name. And although I respect other signatories, for me ... it was a mistake - my mistake - and I'm sorry for all the unpleasant feelings that I could cause, "- said the actress.
