Thanks to the intervention of the vice-mayor of the city of Migdal ha-Emek Sergei Oklunder, as well as Knesset members from the NDI party Yulia Malinovskaya and Oded Forer, the deportation of two children was prevented.
The new repatriate Natalia Mazaeva, who arrived in Israel about a year ago on the basis of the Law on Return, returned to Ukraine for her children 12 and 16 years old, and brought them to Israel. She had all the necessary documents for the registration of cohabitation of children with her mother, including the written consent of the father to move the children to permanent residence in Israel. Later in the Department of Immigration and Population Registration claimed that the documents submitted by Natalia Mazaeva did not include the notarized consent of the father to ensure that his children lived permanently in Israel, although on the document presented to this woman such consent was confirmed in black and white. Officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs simply did not bother to read all the documents, and did not allow children to enter Israel, thus separating the mother from the children.
The children were sent to the detention center for people who were denied entry to Israel in order to deport them back to Ukraine. Frightened and not understanding children did not receive any explanations from the officials. They were kept locked up for 24 hours without giving the chance to call their mother until the next evening. They were not given even blankets and toothbrushes, and they were forced to sleep, hiding behind their coats.
After the repatriate turned to the vice-mayor of Migdal ha-Emek for Sergei Oklunder, the deputies of the Knesset from the NDI party Yulia Malinovskaya and Oded Forer, who personally came to the airport to intervene, prevented the deportation of children from Israel.
They met with the deputy director of the department of population registration and immigration and demanded not to allow the expulsion of minors. Knesset members also explained to the mother that she has all the necessary documents, and therefore the deportation of her children is completely groundless. Before that, Natalya Mazaeva, with all the documents she had unsuccessfully tried to show to officials upon her arrival in Israel, had brought Sergei Oklund from the city of Migdal ha-Emek to the airport. After a second review of the submitted documents, which the Knesset members insisted on, they were instructed to immediately release the children and allow them to enter Israel.
