The Jerusalem mayor's office approved plans to build housing for 176 families of Jewish Israelis in the eastern part of the city.
The threefold increase in population and the number of buildings in Noph-Zion will turn it into the largest Jewish enclave within the Arab housing estate in East Jerusalem.
Now Nof Zion, which is located in the Arab district of Jabal Mukaber, consists of seven buildings for 91 apartments. The project, approved by the mayoralty, will add to them another 13 buildings for 176 apartments.
"New housing units will more than double the territory of Nof Zion and turn it into the largest Jewish district of East Jerusalem," the mayor's office reported earlier, announcing the decision taken on Wednesday.
